Klondike Derby 2009

February held our annual Klondike Derby. We held Klondike at Wheeler Farm. This year we had some great success, despite the lack of snow. There was some GREAT innovation to adapt to the conditions.

This year we introduced the Sasquatch Award. This is our travelling award for district camping events.
We had several activities and great stations to test our skills throughout the derby.

To end the events we held an epic tug-of war. We had Scouts vs. Scouts and then Scouts vs. Scoutmasters. Now we know who to call if our car ever gets stuck!

District Pinewood Derby 2009

Our 2009 District Pinewood Derby was a great event!
Our staff was poised and ready to help register all the racers. We even issued drivers licenses to the racers.
There were some blistering heats and amazing cars.
A few match-ups were really close.
We handed out certificates to the participants.
Here is a shot of some of the great work done on these cars! Congratulations to all of our 2009 winners!

The First Annual TEAG Drive

This year we have started a new tradition in the Union Fort District. In correlation with St. Therese's food bank we held a food drive to benefit the needy in the Midvale and Sandy areas. The name TEAG came from the OA. The Order of the Arrow was responsible for the event. TEAG stands for St. Therese's Edible Alms Giving.
Due to scheduling conflicts the food drive took place over three weekends. Regardless, the support was great!
We ended up filling the sorting room on two of the three weekends, and had to overflow into the main entry area.
Thank you to all that participated!

Midvale Harvest Days

We had a great opportunity to represent the Boy Scouts of America in August at the Midvale Harvest Days. We were asked by Midvale City to bring all the Boy Scouts from the Union Fort District to the parade. The youth and leaders that were involved were an impressive sight.
We were also allowed a booth. We held an information sign-up booth. We even had some local celebrities endorse our booth! If you missed the Harvest Days Festival you really missed an opportuinty to support our community and our district. We hope to see you there next year!
Stay tuned for more Union Fort fun! We are having our Join Us night on 9 September, Jamboral on 12 and 13 September, and lots more fun to come beyond this! Watch for more fun and excitement for the upcoming 100 year celebration for the Boy Scouts of America!

Scouting For Food

The Union Fort District had a great opportunity for service at the end of March. We were able to join the Great Salt Lake Council in the 2008 Scouting For Food Drive.

The Scouting for Food drive in Utah is conducted jointly in the Great Salt Lake Council, Trapper Trails Council and Utah National Parks Council.

The one day total for food brought as a collective effort for the Utah Food Bank was 533,000 pounds. This was a great effort that helped to replenish a heavily depleted food supply here in Utah.

In the Union Fort District we had more than 350 youth and 250 adults who joined together in this great cause. In all we brought in more than 20,000 pounds of food.

The Union Fort District would like to thank Sunbelt Rentals for their generous donation of the fork lift. This greatly enhances our efforts and makes te process much smoother!

District Klondike 2008

The Union Fort District held it's annual Klondike Derby on 8-9 February. We were at Tracy Fort in Mill Creek Canyon. Attendance was great and the weather was almost perfect.

Parking was a little tight at first, but we were able to work things out. Participants started arriving before 5:00 and most of the set-up was done by 7. We ended up with about 125 participants.

After a refreshing night of brisk camping the participants were able to show off their scouting skills by sharing their ideas with other troops.

There were sleds a-plenty and in the end there was a snowball fight of epic proportions.

We also had some local visitors in close proximity.

Thank you to all who participated!

Please come join us for our next activities:
